The Singapore Garden Festival Mesmerises
I was enchanted by exquisite floral designs and lovely landscaped gardens. The Sp Garden Festival is the only garden show in the world that brings together international landscape and garden designers, florists and horticulturalists under one roof.
I saw world renowned multi-award winning designers showcased their works in Singapore for the first time ever. What was dazzling were the many colourful cut-flower masterpieces by students from Nanyang Primary as well as stunning garden designs by some secondary schools such as Assumption English School.
There were also educational and recreational gardening activities that cater to the young and old, serious gardeners as well as hobbyists. The place was also teemed with excited photographers. This festival offered enormous learning opportunities and learning resources in scope beyond horticultural to include photography, recycling, care for the environment, use of plants for cooking and health care and aesthetic appeal (eg using flowers/plants as wall pieces and for enhancing the balcony and interiors of flats).

Groundwork for Visit to US - Visited Singapore Art Museum
Works by renowned artists such as Yeh Chi Wei and Wu Guangzhong were exhibited. Explanations of their pieces of paintings were mounted next to their works. The text and descriptions give rich words and expressions on how the artists expressed their inner thoughts and emotions in their paintings such as ".....when I come to a deadlock....I choose....However, I will revert to....when I feel that by dabbling in.." quote Wu Guangzhong. Yeh Chi Wei was quoted to use the expression 'sculpt picture' instead of painting a picture. Yeh Chi Wei also used archaic characters to "lend antiquity and nostalgia to his subjects."

Preparatory Work - Visited Singapore National Museum
Viewed 2 special exhibitions - Contemporary installation works by Cai Guo-Qiang and Singapore in the 1960s.
The installation works by Cai Guo-Qiang portrayed the artist's thoughts on the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall with its depiction of 99 real-sized wolves hitting a glass. His other display includes a video that shows how man's quest for new buildings brings about destruction to old buildings (contradiction between destruction and beauty). His third display is a huge painting in gunpowder that shows the dynamism and force of thousands of wolves as they were being sucked into a vortex.
It's interesting seeing how the artist uses wolves to portray his thoughts.
The 99 wolves on display are replicas.
Singapore in the 1960s brings one back to the era of tumultuous happenings in Sp together with the culture and spirit of that time.
